International Holidays & Events

Date: December 3Purpose: Established by the United Nations in 1992, this day promotes the rights and well-being of people with disabilities worldwide. It aims to increase awareness about disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights, and inclusion of disabled persons.Activities: Awareness campaigns, public discussions, art exhibitions, and policy reviews.

Date: April 2Purpose: A day dedicated to raising awareness about autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and the challenges faced by individuals with autism and their families.Activities: Landmark lightings in blue, educational events, fundraising walks, and social media campaigns like #LightItUpBlue.

Date: March 21Purpose: To raise public awareness about Down syndrome and advocate for the rights and well-being of individuals with the condition. The date (3/21) symbolizes the triplication (trisomy) of chromosome 21, which causes Down syndrome.Activities: “Lots of Socks” campaign where people wear colorful, mismatched socks to celebrate uniqueness.

Date: October 15Purpose: Celebrates the achievements of people who are visually impaired or blind and recognizes the white cane as a symbol of independence.Activities: Awareness campaigns on mobility rights, community walks, and educational workshops.

Date: Last full week of SeptemberPurpose: To promote awareness of the challenges and achievements of the deaf community, including the importance of sign language and accessibility.Activities: Sign language workshops, storytelling events, and campaigns advocating for equal communication rights.
